Wheelie Easy Hotels helps travellers find suitable hotels

Travellers with reduced mobility of any type will no doubt have found out how complex it can be to research suitable hotels for their travel needs.  General travel review sites may provide all the usual details to help inform their choice, however they will need to find out about a greater number of features than the more mobile person, such as:

  • whether a hotel has level disabled access to the main entrance
  • whether there are suitable elevators, that may need to be large enough for a wheelchair
  • whether there are rooms with a choice of either a bath or shower suitable for individual needs

Wheelie Easy Hotels aims to provide such information.  We hope to save travellers time when planning their travel, by reducing the need to individually email or phone hotel after hotel.  We are primarily, but not exclusively,  concentrating initially on providing information about popular destinations that are known to prove particularly inaccessible for disabled travellers.  However, our database will steadily grow to include worldwide information.  If you cannot currently find the destination you are seeking on our site, then please return soon.

Wheelie Easy Hotels has been shaped following our own personal experiences.  The process of researching suitable accommodation for personal needs has, up to the present, involved many emails and phone calls to individual hotels.  General travel review sites have proved invaluable, but a very limited number of travellers refer to disabled access in their reviews.  When searching online for advice sites catering to disabled travellers these are often found to be limited in scope, perhaps referring to only one locality or to merely a handful of hotels.

Wheelie Easy Hotels searches through existing travel related sites to attempt to bring together the maximum amount of published information relating to access in hotels for disabled and less mobile travellers.  Our intent is to centralise the search for suitable hotels worldwide, creating a single, wide-ranging, resource for the less mobile traveller. From this site it is possible to:

  • search for hotels to discover which have facilities suitable for people who may have a range of disabilities.
  • easily find relevant reviews from travellers who have mentioned facilities suitable (or unsuitable) for disabled and mobility impaired travellers.
  • look for hotels who advertise themselves as fully accessible and with a dedicated room for disabled travellers.
  • find alternative hotels which, although not fully accessible, may still have a main, level, wheelchair access, or an entrance with only a small step.
  • find hotels with an elevator that is large enough to accommodate a wheelchair user. Search for the dimensions of elevators.
  • search also for hotels which, although not fully accessible, may still have suitable bathing facilities for a variety of disabled travellers.
  • read hotels' own assessments of their facilities which might cater for the needs of a variety of disabled travellers.

In many large cities the traveller will find that 5 star hotels will have rooms suitable for wheelchair users, however such hotels are not always in the desired location for travellers, or always within budget.  Wheelie Easy Hotels is likely to provide most relevant content for travellers looking for 3 and 4 star city hotels. It is less likely that hotels below this star rating will prove suitable, however we will provide links to those reviewed as such.

Wheelie Easy Hotels will only feature hotels for which we have found additional links from traveller reviews, forums, and other websites discussing disability, or when the hotel itself provides disability related information to wheelie-easy-hotels.com. Travellers will be able to find additional accommodation possibilities from the more general traveller information websites.

By encouraging hotels themslves to inform us of their relevant facilities, we intend to fill the gaps where no traveller reviews have yet referred to the features that a range of less mobile travellers may find necessary.

To help the wheelie-easy database to grow, we encourage travellers to submit their own hotel reviews on this site.  If travellers also prefer to post a review, discussing disabled access, on one of the more general travel review sites, then we ask that they please add a link to that review in our Hotel Review form, or, alternatively, email it to us.  And, of course, it is just as important to hear about hotels that have been contacted and have declared features to be unsuitable for disabled travellers.  Travellers are encourage to review hotels that are not yet listed on Wheelie Easy Hotels.  In this event please include as much information as possible regarding the location and any other contact details including official web site for the property.

Potential travellers are able to assess for themselves the complete range of information provided on this site so as to use their own judgement to decide which hotels may be most suitable for their own needs.  All information will be highly subjective and Wheelie Easy Hotels does not make its own judgements on the validity of the information shown on this site.
